25/10/2019: Day One

So most of today is going to be travelling!

I arrived at Glasgow airport for my flight to London Heathrow, and checked my case through to Johannesburg. Getting through security was quick and easy… surprisingly! Now to wait it out til the first plane journey of the trip!

Once I arrived at Heathrow, I went to Wagamamas for some food whilst I waited on Jess and Nigel arriving. The view from the restaurant made the wait a bit easier. It looked out over all the check ins and seating areas, fantastic for people watching.

Once we all met up we went to spoons for a couple of obligatory airport drinks! Catching up in the excitement and discussing the trip ahead, the only thing we dreaded was the long journey.

Certainly after a few drinks, the long flight ahead seemed so much quicker.

Settling on the plane, a man was kind enough to swap seats with Nigel to ensure we were all on the same row! We ordered in another round of drinks and got chatting again!

Now we have 11 hours ahead of us… the person in front of me has their seat recliner right back so the screen is like 20cm from my face, let’s hope that’s the worst part of the flight because we have a long day ahead of us in Jo-berg tomorrow!

I found myself lost in my own thoughts about how lucky I was to have this opportunity and how much I wanted to do it right, because something of this magnitude should have care taken to make sure that we get it correct.

Until tomorrow… day one in joberg.
